Student Life@CUT

Student Identification Card


The Student ID is issued by the Service for Academic Affairs and Student Welfare of the CUT. The Student ID will entitle you to obtain reductions and special prices on museums, cinemas, exhibitions, cafes, restaurants and on any other services with which the University is collaborating. It is also necessary to get entrance to the Library and Computer services or to any other services of the University. In order to obtain the card students will need to fill a registration form. You can contact the Erasmus Office for further information.

It costs 7,00 euro, paid on behalf of students once they arrive.

 

Health and insurance


If you are an EU/EEA citizen, you must bring your European Health Insurance card. This document is a health insurance, which will guarantee your medical treatment on the same conditions as Cypriot citizens.
Contact your regional social insurance office for European Health Insurance Card or other document that proves your insurance.
Please note that the card is available free of charge through your local health authority.

Cost of living


It is difficult to give a precise estimate of how much money you will need, partly because much depends on your own circumstances and lifestyle. Here, you have a list of approximate prices of some basic products:


- Loaf of bread........................1,30 €
- Fresh milk .............................1,25 €
- Eggs (box of 12)................... 2,50 €
- Water (1 1/2 L)......................0,30 €
- A student meal.................... 3-5 €
- A cup of coffee......................1,50 €
- Accommodation..................250-300 €

Tips for doing shopping: 


- Municipal Market: fresh fish, meat, vegetables, fruits and traditional products (Saripolou Street).
- Sunday Market: vegetables and fruits for good Price (2 minutes from the Old Port).
- Lidl: the cheapest prices (Fragklinou Roosvelt Street).
- Carrefour: there are two Carrefour and you can find them in Spyrou Kyprianou, Germasogia; Odos Pafou, Kato Polemidia.
- Minimarkets: the prices are more expensive (open every day).​

- Jumbo: the cheapest prices for household, school materials, carnival accessories and etc...

Sports and recreation


The University offers a complete programme of athletic activities, that includes among others:


• Internal Championships
• Athletics
• Recreational Sports
• Sports and Community Service
• Events


Based on the students’ programme of study, the various activities are adapted in such a way that the students have the opportunity to participate in their free time.
The city is home to multitude of sport facilities which serve its residents as well as foreign students. Limassol offers ample space for jogging, cycling, walking and swimming.

Limassol by night



During your time off, choose among Limassol´s many restaurants, cafes, pubs and clubs. Particularly charming atmosphere awaits you in the Old Town area. It is the center of night life in Limassol, even there are open-air restaurants and pubs.
There is also plenty of places dispersed all around the city. There is an enormous variety places from small, cozy cafes to very popular student´s pubs like Retro, Salut, Melibar, Seven Seas and many more.

City sights


There are so many choices and interesting sights in Limassol that it would be difficult to recommend just a few. However, there are some places that are an absolute must for all visitors:


- Old Town. One of the most beautiful in Cyprus. It is the heart of the city with its narrow streets radiating out from the old fishing harbour. 
- Medieval Castle. The medieval Limassol castle was the site of a royal wedding in the Middle Ages between Richard the Lionheart, King of England, and Berengaria of Navarre, and now houses the Cyprus Medieval Museum. 

- Anexartisias Street. One of the main road of  Limassol for shopping, close to Cyprus University of Technology.

- Enaerios. Area near the beach offers cafeterias for coffee and food.
- Kourion. One of the most spectacular archaeological sites on the island, Kourion was an important city kingdom where excavations continue to reveal impressive new treasures. Noted particularly for its magnificent Greco - Roman Theatre, Kourion is also proud home to stately villas with exquisite mosaic floors and an early Christian Basilica among other treasures.
- Ladies Mile Beach. The beautiful Ladies Mile beach is located close to the new Limassol Port. The water here is shallow and extremely clear and is perfect for someone looking for some peace and quiet.
- Governor´s Beach. Governor's beach is located in between Larnaca and Limassol. The beach has beautiful golden sands mixed with pebbles along with remarkable white rocks and shallow clear water.

Eating on Campus


The University offers a variety of choices when it comes to on campus food:


• Plateia Restaurant (located on Pavlou Mela Street at Heroes Square) offers lunch from 13:00 to 16:00.
• Zappeion Cafeteria (located few feet away from Plateia restaurant at Heroes Square) offers number of meals during the day and during the evening.
• University Cafeteria (located next to main University building).


There are also a large number of restaurants, bars and cafes situated around the University.

University Student Clubs



The University offers to students, clubs for participating in extra - activities outside from the University.
